As a proud member of Relais & Châteaux, Ecoventura is deeply committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. We share their vision of protecting and preserving our precious marine resources, striving to make the world a better place through cuisine and hospitality.
World Ocean Day: A Call to Action
On June 7th, 2024, we join the global community in celebrating World Ocean Day. This year, we stand alongside Relais & Châteaux and Ethic Ocean to answer the urgent call: SOS for biodiversity! This year the United Nations World Oceans Day theme is “Awaken New Depths,” urging us to delve deeper into our understanding, compassion, and commitment to safeguarding our oceans.
Sustainable Seafood: Making a Difference
By choosing sustainable seafood, we can significantly impact protecting aquatic ecosystems. At Ecoventura, we are proud to source over 53% of our ingredients locally, supporting small artisan food providers in the Galapagos Islands. Our dedication to sustainable cuisine includes serving “brujo” (scorpion fish) and spiny lobster from the Galapagos (in season from August to December), ensuring our culinary offerings align with our commitment to marine conservation.
To commemorate World Ocean Day, Chef Cristian Murrieta aboard the Theory is crafting a special and sustainable tasting menu, sourcing 85% of the ingredients from the Galapagos Islands. This culinary experience highlights the flavors of the Galapagos while emphasizing sustainability.
The journey begins with a tantalizing amuse-bouche: a Salprieta Tuile and local cheese accompanied by a Citrusy Dom Potier Brut Rosé from Spain, setting the stage for an exquisite meal.
For the starter, indulge in a Crispy Cauliflower dish, perfectly paired with a Vegetable Demi-Glace and Toasted Corn, complemented by the refreshing notes of Riesling from Cousiño-Macul, Doña Isidora.
Moving on to the main courses, savor the flavors of the ocean with tender Octopus served with a Yellow Sweet Potato Puree, Tropical Mango Chutney, and Green Plantain, elegantly paired with a Sauvignon Blanc from Maison Castel, France. Alternatively, delight in the Scorpion Fish, presented with a rich Spinach Sauce, Fennel and Lime Puree, and a medley of Vegetables, accompanied by the robust Châteauneuf du Pape from Maison Castel.
To cleanse the palate, enjoy a refreshing Blackberry Granita pre-dessert, paving the way for the grand finale: a Decadent Chocolate Dessert featuring a 70% Cacao Mousse, Passion Fruit Gelee, and luscious Chocolate Sauce, beautifully paired with a Pinot Noir from Montes Limited Selection.
We also offer vegetarian and vegan options, ensuring that everyone can partake in this culinary celebration. This menu is a true celebration of the ocean, thoughtfully curated to honor the beauty and abundance of marine life.
Additionally, our expert guides will deliver an educational presentation covering vital topics such as ocean conservation, marine biodiversity in the Galapagos, threats to marine ecosystem, and sustainable practices aimed at preserving our precious oceans.
The Importance of Our Oceans
Our oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth’s surface and are home to a diverse range of species. They play a crucial role in regulating the climate, providing food, and supporting livelihoods. However, our relationship with the ocean needs to urgently change. Overfishing, pollution, and climate change pose significant threats to marine ecosystems.
By supporting sustainable practices and choosing responsibly sourced seafood, we can help protect these ecosystems for future generations. Ecoventura is committed to doing our part, and we invite you to join us in this mission.
Together, we can make a difference and awaken new depths of understanding and compassion for our planet’s most vital resource.
World Ocean Day is a time to reflect on the importance of our oceans and the steps we can take to protect them. Whether you’re joining us on board enjoying a sustainable meal, or learning from our expert guides, your actions can make a difference. Let’s celebrate our oceans together and continue to work towards a healthier, more sustainable future for our oceans.
