Charles Darwin Bicentennial in 2009

Ecoventura marked the anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth (Feb 12 in Shrewsbury, England) and the 150 years since Darwin’s The Origin of Species was published  on Nov 24, 1859 as well as other significant events that will impact the Galapagos in 2009 such as the 50th anniversary of the Darwin Station and the National Park Service and 30 years designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To recap; Ecoventura will celebrate these events on all cruise departures in 2009:

200th birthday or bicentennial of Charles Darwin Birth (Feb 12, 1809)
150th anniversary of the publication of Origin of Species  (Nov 24,1859)
50th anniversary of the Charles Darwin Station and National Park Service
30 years Galapagos declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site

Our guides are preparing special lectures on Charles Darwin to offer to our guests.  We have also ordered special edition books and DVDs to enrich our libraries.  Our yachts will feature educational posters and stickers on maps and certificates to celebrate these milestones.

Last but not least, Ecuador will celebrate 200 years of independence on August 10th, 2009.
