Captain Gerardo, a longstanding member of the Ecoventura team, brings valuable maritime expertise to his role. Apart from his sailing proficiency, he harbors a passion for both SCUBA and free-form diving. Notably, he recently earned a second degree in law, showcasing his exceptional multitasking abilities and diverse skill set.
Marlon Perez
Since 2002, Captain Marlon has been navigating ships between Ecuador and the United States, including traversing the Panama Canal. Prior to joining Ecoventura, he captained larger vessels in the Galapagos. Now, he finds joy in spending time with our nature-loving guests.
Peter Vallejo
Captain Peter, a seasoned master of the seas renowned for his skillful navigation, possesses a keen eye for creating unforgettable moments. His expertise extends to adjusting the ship’s course to offer guests breathtaking views of whales in their natural splendor. A dedicated father of three, he imparts a special warmth to family departures, ensuring that children on board receive extra care and attention for a truly memorable journey.

With a rich background steering oil tankers and cruise ships through the enchanting Galapagos Islands, Captain Henry brings a wealth of nautical expertise to every voyage. Renowned for his exceptional hosting skills, he ensures a delightful experience for all aboard the Theory, paying meticulous attention to every detail.

Born in Quito, Captain John has navigated tanker ships across Asia and America, discovering his true calling amidst the wild beauty of the Galapagos Islands. With a passion for adventure and an affection for the islands’ distinct wildlife and amiable locals, he now stands at the helm of the Evolve.

Concierges
Melissa Carlier
Fueled by a passion for tourism and hospitality from her youth, Melissa, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism from ESPOL in 2008. Continuing her academic journey, she obtained an MSc. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Edinburgh Napier University, followed by an MBA from HTMi Institute in Switzerland. Since 2017, she has excelled as a Hotel Manager aboard cruise ships in the Galapagos Islands.
María Fernanda Alcívar
Maria Fernanda holds a degree in tourism and hospitality management from UEES University. She expanded her education by obtaining master’s degrees in hospitality management and human resources from the University of Barcelona and Spain, respectively. Her fervor lies in travel, customer service, and the art of crafting unforgettable guest experiences.
Estefania Alava
Estefania graduated with a degree in Tourism and Hotel Management in 2014, diving straight into the industry thereafter. Renowned for her organizational prowess, she meticulously tends to every detail of the guest experience. Her interests extend to outdoor activities, reading, and photography.
Maite Bustos
Maite, an Ecuadorian native, graduated in tourism and hotel management in 2015. She’s passionate about the sea and fascinated by whales. An advocate for outdoor activities, Maite constantly seeks to enhance service and ensure guest satisfaction.
Joselyn de los Santos
Joselyn, an alumna of Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil, holds a degree in Tourism and Hotel Management. With nearly 5 years of experience at a Relais & Châteaux property in Guayaquil, she now brings her expertise to Ecoventura. Joselyn’s passions span photography, gastronomy, travel, and reading.
Naturalist Guides
Sofia Darquea
Sofia, a Tourism graduate with a focus on Hotel Management, gained experience abroad in France before returning to Ecuador. Residing on Santa Cruz Island, she serves as the president of the Galapagos Naturalist Guide’s Association (AGIPA). Additionally, Sofia holds the distinction of being the very first naturalist guide to work with Ecoventura since the inaugural yacht MY Eric back in 1991.
Cecibel Guerrero
After working as a guide trained by the Galápagos National Park Service and the Charles Darwin Research Station, Ecuadorian-born “Ceci” Guerrero has spent years leading tourists through this pristine destination. Certified since 1992, she guided for nearly a decade before taking time off to raise her two children. Now back in action, she delights in sharing her home with guests, particularly during snorkeling, her favorite excursion.
Malena Cruz
Malena, a licensed naturalist guide since 1994, studied professional tourism guiding at university. Her expertise lies in topics such as sea currents, geology, and the marine reserve of the Galápagos. Outside of guiding, she manages her family’s hotel on San Cristobal Island and enjoys activities like reading, music, and fishing.
Karina Lopez
Karina Lopez, born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador, has nurtured her passion for tourism and hospitality through extensive academic pursuits and practical experience. Holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality from her hometown and a technical degree as a Professional Guide of Ecuador, she has further enriched her linguistic skills by obtaining a diploma in the French language from the esteemed Alliance Française.
Martin Loyola
Martin Loyola, born on the mainland of Ecuador and raised in the Galapagos Islands, holds a bachelor’s degree in tourism from the University of Guayaquil. With over thirty years of experience, he stands out as one of the most sought-after and respected Licensed Naturalist Guides in the Galapagos Islands.
Fabrizio Prado
Native to the Galapagos and raised in San Cristobal, Fabrizio experienced the wonders of this island from a young age. Recognizing the uniqueness of his environment, he pursued certification as a naturalist guide to engage directly with nature and share the marvels of his homeland with nature enthusiasts worldwide.
Fabricio Carbo
An Ecuadorian, a Diving Instructor, and a Marine Reserve Guide, Fabricio proudly served as the first guide for Ecoventura aboard the “Eric.” Over the years, he has collaborated with esteemed groups such as the Smithsonian, Audubon Society, Nature Conservancy, and contributed to a marine life documentary for National Geographic. Passionate about fostering a love for nature, he particularly enjoys working with families and teaching children about the wonders of the environment. Since his initial visit in 1983, he reamins a staunch lover and protector of the Galapagos Islands.
Luis Fernando Sanchez
Luis Fernando has served as a Galapagos National Park Naturalist Guide for 17 years. Over the course of his career, he seized the opportunity to become a photography instructor through a training program organized by photographers from the National Geographic Society. Actively supporting the national park, he collaborates with fellow trainers in workshops designed to train local naturalist guides.
Antonio Adrian
Similar to Darwin, Antonio has consistently sought grand adventures, traversing all continents and exploring a myriad of ecosystems. Holding degrees in environmental and educational sciences, he stands as an authority with a couple of published books on natural history. Embracing an unconventional approach, he advocates for the use of humor and non-formal education as effective tools to impart knowledge about our world. Additionally, he holds the prestigious titles of National Geographic Diver Specialist and photo instructor.
Ivan Lopez
Following studies in environmental management, tourism, and photography, Ivan achieved his licensing as a guide in 2005. Proficient both on land and underwater, he holds certifications as a scuba instructor and trainer. Beyond his love for nature, Ivan is deeply passionate about music and frequently delights guests with his original songs, adding a unique and personal touch to their experiences.
José Luis Castillo
José Luis Castillo, commonly known as Pepe, hails from the Island of San Cristobal. Armed with a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality, along with a technical degree as a Professional Tour Guide of Ecuador, he embarked on a specialization as a Galapagos Naturalist Guide in 1996. Beyond his expertise in land excursions, Pepe’s passion extends to scuba diving and snorkeling during vacations, where he revels in sharing his extensive knowledge with others. With a commendable tenure, he has dedicated over 20 years of service to Ecoventura.
Gustavo Andrade
Gustavo, who was raised in Guayaquil, maintains strong ties to the Galapagos. With his family rooted on San Cristobal island for three generations and his father serving as a tour boat captain, his connection to the archipelago runs deep. Despite his training in industrial engineering, Gustavo followed his passion for nature, becoming a naturalist with the Galápagos National Park Service in 2005.
Billy Maquilon
Billy pursued studies in chemistry, biology, and environmental sciences at the university, fueled by an unwavering passion for the Galápagos. With a traveler’s spirit, he dedicated four years to exploring Europe and the United States before returning to his beloved Galápagos. Over nearly three decades, Billy has immersed himself in guiding, evolving into a true expert in the region.
Jeffo Marquez
Jeffo, a native “Isleño” from the Galapagos Islands, transitioned from restaurant administration to Environmental Management and now serves as a Galapagos Naturalist guide. With a background as a National Geographic Photo Instructor, he has worked in wildlife-rich locations like Costa Rica and The Upper Amazon. His diverse expertise includes workshops on protected areas, wildlife management, and tropical dendrology. Affiliated with the National Association for Interpretation, Jeffo passionately shares his love for nature as an International Interpretive Guide during field engagements.
Jorge Torres
Jorge has been a Galapagos Naturalist Guide since 1987, born and raised on the oldest island, San Cristobal, in the Galapagos. Sent by his parents at the age of ten for High School and College on mainland Ecuador, he became a Marine and Port Administration Engineer. Jorge belongs to the third generation of people born in the Galápagos. With 34 years of experience as a Naturalist, he continues to share his knowledge and provide special care for his beautiful islands. As an early traveler overseas, he had the opportunity to compare other places with these unique islands, fostering a deep appreciation for his home like nowhere else in the world.
Chefs
José Villavicencio
In 1988, José began his culinary journey at Guayaquil Hotel as a kitchen assistant while attending The Chef’s School. After dedicating over a decade to honing his skills, he transitioned to UEES (Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo) in 2000. Serving as head chef and later as executive chef until 2016, José cultivated his expertise. Now, he thrives at Origin, curating exceptional culinary experiences for our guests.
Cristhian Murrieta
Christian’s journey into the world of gastronomy commenced in 2012 at Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (UEES). Following his studies, he honed his culinary skills at the Salinas Yacht Club, mastering the art of Ecuadorian cuisine in 2013. Venturing further, Christian has embraced the flavors of Peru at the renowned “Tanta” franchise in Ecuador for a rewarding two-year stint starting in 2014.
Johnny Rivas
Born and raised in Guayaquil, Johnny has almost 20 years of experience as a professional chef. Fueled by a relentless drive for innovation, he has made waves as an international chef, gracing luxury cruises for nearly a decade. His culinary prowess extends beyond the high seas, as he’s also a seasoned contender in local culinary competitions.
Estuardo Vilela
Since his youth, Estuardo has been captivated by the art of cooking. His culinary journey commenced in one of Guayaquil’s esteemed hotels, where he absorbed invaluable knowledge and skills. In 2014, an exciting opportunity beckoned as he joined Ecoventura’s fleet, where he has since been immersed in the wonders of the enchanted islands.
Arturo Peñafiel
A culinary connoisseur whose love affair with cooking began in his formative years. Choosing to pursue his passion, he embarked on a culinary journey after high school. In 2005, Arturo’s talents landed him a coveted position aboard Ecoventura’s fleet, where he has since been weaving his culinary magic in the enchanted islands.
Erick Vanegas
Born and raised in Guayaquil, Erick began his gastronomy journey 21 years ago with a passion for cooking. Throughout his career, he has pursued academic training and has worked in high-end restaurants and international hotel chains, currently making his mark on luxury yachts. Through his dedication and passion, Erick has not only transformed the way we view food but also inspires future generations of chefs to explore and reinvent gastronomy.
